Let’s talk about Meghan’s training routine. When asked in an interview how she usually ups her fitness, she said, “It depends if we’re in season or not. In-season, right now, we do a lot of circuit training, a lot of plyometrics and functional movement type stuff. As hockey players, we’re predominantly lower-body loaded, so we do most stuff on one leg. We work with Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning out of Woburn. One of our biggest tests is a Rear Foot-Elevated Split Squat with Kettlebells. I think most players on our team will hold around 64 kilos, which is 130 pounds for a one legged squat. That’s pretty good.”

When it comes to nutrition, she said, “This entire year, because we’re training so much, everyone on our team has completely leaned out. It’s crazy the shape that we’re in. The best thing you can do is eat a balance of lean protein, greens, grains and vegetables. In a two-hour ice session, you can lose two pounds of water weight, so [we] make sure we’re hydrating and eating right.”

But then in 2004, I got to the point where I was sick of eating chicken. It started grossing me out for some reason. I was about a month out from a fight and I decided I was going to cut out all meat. I was working with a trainer who was vegan and he helped me make the switch. I won that fight and went on a 12-fight winning streak. And [not eating meat] made it really easy to cut weight for that fight.”

When asked in an interview how she stays fit and how she maintains a balanced and healthy lifestyle, the model said, “I know this is so clichè but everything in moderation whether it’s sugar, alcohol, work, socialising, shopping etc.. A little bit of everything makes for a well -rounded and very balanced life!”

When it comes to her diet, Rebecca said, “Every morning I have a bowl of muesli and strong latte for breakfast, which keeps me going until morning tea, which is usually a Lipton Green tea, fruit (pears are a fave and are very high in fibre) and cheese and crackers. I snack regularly throughout the day on fruit free muesli bars and popcorn too. Lunch is either brown rice sushi and dinner will be either a yummy pasta dish or lean meat with brown rice and LOTS of veggies. Dessert is a must –I eat it every night (usually chocolate, ice-cream or a piece of homemade banana cake) with a Lipton Green Tea.”
